Strawberry-Banana Smoothie

Ok, I didn’t want to be the nutritionist who recommended smoothies (since we alllllll seem to be doing it and there’s nothing original about it), but in all honesty, these are the sorts of things I do at home to get different nutrients into stubborn parents (LOL, yes, the tables have turned)!  The banana does a really great job here at masking the bitterness of the dandelion as well as sweetening up the strawberries – so they don’t even realize they’re having greens until I inform them, lol.

I have 2 sets of instructions here – one that requires a blender and one that also requires a juicer.  My blender doesn’t do a very good job at breaking down veggies, so I prefer to juice them.  Creating a smoothie from all the fibre of the fruits and veggies is the healthier route, though.

Serves 2-3
Ingredients
  • 1 handful of dandelion greens (hell, add in the flowers, stems and roots too!  They’re good for your liver!)
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 10-ish strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup water (in Blender-Only Method)
Preparation Method 1 (Juicer/Blender Method):
  • Wash all fruits and vegetables.
  • Using a juice extractor, add dandelion, cucumber, celery stalks and strawberry greens.
  • Blend veggie juice with the fruit portion of the strawberries and banana.
Preparation Method 2 (Blender-Only Method):
  • Wash all fruits and vegetables.
  • Using a high-speed blender, combine veggies, fruit and about 1 cup of water and blend.
